Mirror, mirror...

I just love this little hand mirror that I made. I used the solder technique. This was my first time doing this technique. I had a lot of fun. I think I'm addicted. My plan is to make a velvet pouch to hold the mirror. It will make great Christmas gifts. Cheap and cute!

Here's how I did:

1. Cut 1 piece of clear glass and 1 piece of mirror glass, 2 1/2 x 2 1/2. I used a hand held glass cutter, corked back metal ruler and cutting mat.

2. Cut 1 piece of decorative scrap paper to 2 1/2 x 2 1/2.

3. Type the word "music" on the computer, print, cut out and paste onto scrap paper.

4. Add heart rub-on to paper.

5. Sandwich paper between both pieces of glass.

6. Wrap glass with copper tape, burnish.

7. Melt solder (lead free) around glass with soldering iron.

8. Melt solder into "bubbles" around glass for decoration. I did this by tapping the solder onto the tape instead of spreading it around.

Voila!

Here's that altered book I talked about in my last post. I created it for my friend Danielle as a thank you gift for taking me along with her on a free cruise trip last year to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic. Danielle is truly one of God's soldiers, so I made the book in a religious theme.
